Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants head to head preview:

The New York Giants are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2012 that saw them miss the playoffs.Three straight such years - and a big contract extension for Tony Romo - have the Dallas Cowboys feeling increasing pressure to return to the postseason. If either of these archrivals are lacking that sense of urgency to start the season, the sight of each other should provide plenty of motivation Sunday night as the Giants try to remain unbeaten at AT&T Stadium.New York (9-7) failed to follow up its improbable 2011 Super Bowl title, losing five of its final eight games last year. The Giants were particularly bad in lopsided losses to Atlanta and Baltimore on Dec. 16 and 23, falling by a combined 67-14 to effectively seal their fate. The performances were indicative of defensive problems that plagued the team all season, as New York finished 31st in the NFL with 383.4 yards allowed per game. The Giants' usually powerful pass rush managed only 33 sacks, 22nd in the league.Coach Tom Coughlin's team took steps to correct its problems against the run in the offseason, remaking the interior line, but New York's defensive success may hinge greatly on whether it can rediscover its trademark ability to get to the quarterback."For us it is all about staying healthy," said end Justin Tuck, one of numerous Giants defensive players looking to bounce back from subpar seasons. "We obviously know what it takes to get to the top of that mountain."The biggest health issue facing New York on defense is Jason Pierre-Paul's back, which he had surgery on during the offseason. He's listed as questionable, with the team saying it needs a little more time to decide his status."It's something you just can't rush into and it's for your health," Pierre-Paul, who managed 6 1/2 sacks last season after piling up 16 1/2 in 2011, said Monday. "Right now I'm doing the smart thing and just taking it day by day."When I come back, I'll be fully ready to play. We have our rotations, but I'll be ready to play. It's all on the coaches, too, how they want to play me."The Giants also lost safety Stevie Brown, tied for second in the league with eight interceptions last year, for the season with a torn ACL.New York doesn't usually have concerns about an offense led by quarterback Eli Manning and receivers Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, but the trio appears to have work to do to regain its 2011 form. Nicks struggled with injuries and ineffectiveness throughout last season and had trouble getting in sync with Manning during the preseason.Cruz, coming off another 1,000-yard season and having recently signed a long-term contract, suffered a bruised heel in preseason. He's expected to be ready for Sunday."I think it's good to have that first game against our rival, a division game," Manning said. "It's a big game on a lot of counts. Not just because it's the first one but because it's in the division and it's Dallas and we know them well. I think it's good to kick off the season with a big game."The Giants' running game will be led by dynamic second-year back David Wilson after the departure of veteran Ahmad Bradshaw, but the team suffered another injury blow when key backup Andre Brown broke his leg in the preseason and will miss at least the first eight games, leaving a very thin backfield.Dallas also faces plenty of questions after a second straight 8-8 season, its third in a row in which it didn't make the postseason. The Cowboys made a major change to their coaching staff, replacing defensive coordinator Rob Ryan with Monte Kiffin, and with it came a switch from a 3-4 alignment to a 4-3.That means bigger contributions are needed from the line, but a key member of that unit is a question mark for this game. Leading 2012 tackler Anthony Spencer, who also had 11 sacks, is trying to overcome knee surgery and other injuries. He's uncertain to play Sunday."Conditioning certainly is a factor," said coach Jason Garrett, who could be coaching to keep his job this season. "I would say particularly for Spence, just because he really hasn't done much during training camp and hasn't played in the preseason games."The club will likely need a healthy Spencer and strong seasons from DeMarcus Ware - who had 11 1/2 sacks last year but is moving from linebacker to end - linebacker Sean Lee and cornerback Morris Claiborne if it wants to improve after finishing 19th in total defense with 355.4 yards a game in 2012.No Cowboy will face more scrutiny than Romo, who signed a six-year, $108 million extension in the offseason and has been given a bigger stake in the offense. Despite throwing a career high-tying 19 interceptions last season and posting a career-low 90.5 passer rating, he'll be expected to lead Dallas back to the playoffs.Romo will be receiving calls from offensive coordinator Bill Callahan. Garrett had called the plays since he joined the team's staff in 2007."There's just a way to play winning football and there's a way not to," Romo said. "And we're going to make sure we play winning football, that's everybody included. When we're not, it needs to be extremely important and I think it is."Romo and the Cowboys need another typically strong season from tight end Jason Witten (110 catches, 1,039 yards) as well as receiver Dez Bryant, whose breakout year saw him catch 92 passes for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Cowboys, though, were the third-most penalized team in the league last season and were eighth in turnovers with 29.New York won for the fourth time in as many visits to Cowboys Stadium on Oct. 28 - a game in which Romo threw four interceptions and was sacked four times - since the facility opened in 2009, giving it a split of the season series. The Giants have won six of the last eight matchups overall.

Green Bay Packers vs San Francisco 49ers head to head preview:

Colin Kaepernick was an afterthought in Week 1 of the 2012 season, making it on the field for one play when the San Francisco 49ers marched into Lambeau Field and surprised the Green Bay Packers. After gashing the Packers' defense for one big play after another four months later, he was in the NFL record books.Kaepernick's playoff debut for the ages propelled the 49ers to their sixth Super Bowl appearance, but he'll be a marked man as his first season as a starter begins Sunday against a visiting Packers team ready for revenge.Alex Smith led San Francisco to a 6-2 start in 2012 that included a 30-22 Week 1 win at Lambeau, with the 49ers running for 186 yards - 17 on Kaepernick's only carry - to set the tone for a team that would finish with the NFL's fourth-best rushing offense. But San Francisco's transformation from a defense-first team with a caretaker quarterback to a dynamic, Super Bowl contender didn't take place until Kaepernick took over under center following Smith's Week 10 concussion. The 49ers averaged 26.3 points in Kaepernick's seven regular-season starts - up from 23.6 in Smith's first eight - before finding out the entirety of what their 2011 second-round pick could bring in the postseason.Kaepernick passed for 263 yards and ran for an NFL quarterback-record 181 yards while accounting for four total touchdowns in the 49ers' 45-31 divisional dismantling of Green Bay. San Francisco piled up a franchise postseason-record 579 total yards."When the quarterback can run like that, that opens up the arsenal of play-calling," defensive lineman B.J. Raji told the Packers' official website after the loss. "Obviously if you can't stop the run, that's football 101."Kaepernick averaged 10.6 yards per rush in three postseason games and 9.98 yards per pass attempt, nearly leading the 49ers back from a 22-point third-quarter deficit before they fell 34-31 to Baltimore in Super Bowl XLVII.Frank Gore ran for more than 110 yards and a touchdown in each matchup with the Packers last season, but the 49ers were far from the only ones who had little trouble running on them. From December on, including its two playoff games, Green Bay allowed an NFL-worst 5.81 yards per carry.Linebacker Clay Matthews signed a five-year, $66 million extension in the offseason, and along with fellow linebacker Nick Perry - whose rookie season ended in mid-October due to a wrist injury - a Packers pass rush that finished fourth in the league with 47 sacks should be in good shape. The secondary, though, could have some issues. Gone is safety Charles Woodson, while cornerback Casey Hayward missed much of training camp with a hamstring injury and is uncertain for Sunday.Green Bay's offense will look a bit different as well. Top receiver Greg Jennings signed with Minnesota and projected starting running back DuJuan Harris is out for the year with a knee injury, as is left tackle Bryan Bulaga. That means rookie David Bakhtiari will be tasked with protecting Aaron Rodgers' blind side after the 2011 MVP was sacked a league-high 51 times in 2012.The Packers' first-team offense failed to score a touchdown in five preseason drives, but Rodgers wasn't too concerned."It's preseason. We had five good drives. No three-and-outs, one sack, we lost the ball on downs, missed a field goal and had three field goals," Rodgers said. "So we had productive drives. The biggest issue is we didn't have our whole team together."Rodgers still has plenty of useful weapons with Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson, James Jones and Jermichael Finley, but he'll have a new back behind him. Second-round pick Eddie Lacy is expected to get the start in Week 1 after running for 1,322 yards and 17 touchdowns for national champion Alabama last season. He'll be running into one of the league's toughest defensive fronts. San Francisco allowed 94.2 rushing yards per game last season - fourth-best in the NFL - and has given up a league-low 10 rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons. For as much hype as Kaepernick has gotten, he'll also have to adjust without some key weapons. Michael Crabtree (Achilles) is out until at least November and Mario Manningham (ACL) won't play until at least mid-October, leaving little-used Kyle Williams as one of the 49ers' two starters at receiver. The other, though, figures to be rather reliable alongside star tight end Vernon Davis. Just five weeks after Anquan Boldin torched San Francisco's secondary for 104 yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl, the 49ers traded a sixth-round draft pick for the 10-year veteran."We do it by committee," Williams told the team's official website. "It's hard when you (don't) have a guy like Crab. He's definitely a No. 1-type of receiver. ... You could say the same thing about Anquan. But the rest of us are going to be in there. I take on those responsibilities as a No. 2, but it's not going to be limited to me."Though the pieces seem to be in place for the 49ers to contend again, they'll have to buck a major trend. No team has lost in the Super Bowl and won it the following year since the 1972 Dolphins, and none have even made it back to the Super Bowl since the 1992 Bills.

St. Louis Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals head to head preview:

Kicking off the St. Louis Rams 2013 NFL schedule will be the visiting Arizona Cardinals, a divisional rival against whom the Rams have gone 3-9 in the last six years, but swept—by two touchdowns apiece—in their 2012 season series. Each side will be without at least one suspended player, including Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington and two Rams players in running back Isaiah Pead and recently-released linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar. Prior to receiving their bans, the linebackers were scheduled starters for their respective squads. When facing Arizona, it has become customary for one’s attention to first turn to wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald, who has 10,413 receiving yards on his resume, struggled statistically last season because his quarterbacks combined for a 63.1 percent passer rating. They totaled 3,383 passing yards on 55.4 percent completions, adding 11 touchdowns and 21 interceptions—horrific numbers all around. Now, most of their struggles could be traced to subpar offensive line play. The Cardinals tried to strengthen their line by adding former North Carolina guard Jonathan Cooper at No. 7 overall in the 2013 NFL draft.Unfortunately, Cooper broke his leg in the preseason and will miss his rookie year.Arizona also added former Kansas City Chiefs right tackle Eric Winston to the mix and will return Levi Brown to the other bookend. The interior will be manned by two returning starters, center Lyle Sendlein (11 games started in 2012) and left guard Daryn Colledge, with Paul Fanaika at right guard.Fanaika, 27 years old, has not started an NFL game while Brown missed all of last season with a triceps injury. Both of them—along with the rest of the line—will be tested by a St. Louis front four blessed with continuity, which spearheaded an NFL-leading sack-attack defense last year (52 sacks). The Cardinals offensive line was to thank (or blame) for much of that production, as St. Louis recorded 11 sacks in two games against Arizona. That’s how you marginalize Fitzgerald: wreaking havoc on his offensive line and beating up his quarterback. As expected, he totaled just 11 catches for 123 yards on 27 targets in his appearances against the Rams.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Jacksonville Jaguars head to head preview:

The Kansas City Chiefs will travel to EverBank field Sunday afternoon to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in what is sure to be dubbed "The Battle of the Basement," as both teams capped the 2012 season with identical, league-worst 2-14 records. Here is a bold prediction for each team, along with some quick-hit fantasy football picks. The Chiefs have a lot of new parts in place in all three facets of the game, and a more dynamic approach could result in some spectacular results in Jacksonville. The Chiefs defense will look to feast on a Jaguars offense led by a hobbled Blaine Gabbert at quarterback. Justin Houston, Tamba Hali and multiple blitz packages should force the former first-rounder into many mistakes, creating opportunities for Kansas City's playmakers to thrive -- primarily Eric Berry and Derrick Johnson.Kansas City brought in Dave Toub to be specials teams coach and the move has paid immediate dividends, with the unit having scored on two kick returns in the preseason and regularly putting the offense in a favorable field position. Jacksonville did not give up a special teams score last year, but rookie Knile Davis is looking to make his mark on the NFL.With Gabbert still having not proven himself as a viable starting-caliber quarterback in the NFL, the Chiefs' main focus on defense will be to stop running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who is not quite 100 percent healthy himself. And with wide receiver Justin Blackmon out due to league suspension, Kansas City could have a relatively easy time slowing down the Jaguars offense -- maybe even shutting them down completely. The Chiefs will feature a more aggressive defense this season, which should result in more sacks and turnovers. While it will also yield more big plays to the opposition, Jacksonville just does not have the firepower to take advantage here.Charles is coming off a career year (285 carries and 1,509 rushing yards) and will be two full seasons removed from an ACL injury that cost him most of the 2011 campaign. He will also be used more in the passing game in Reid's offense, heightening his big-play ability. While the Chiefs will look to pass the ball more, Charles is still the focal point and is slated to actually receive more total touches than we have seen in the past.If Kansas City grabs an early lead, look for time of possession to become crucial -- which only increases Charles' value as the game progresses.Previously alluded to, the Chiefs defense will be able to direct much of its attention on slowing down Jones-Drew out of the backfield. And with the running back not at full strength, fantasy owners could be in for a very disappointing day.Should Kansas City stay ahead on the scoreboard as the game winds down, the Jaguars will be forced to throw the ball to keep up. Though Jones-Drew has shown to be a capable receiver, his value is way down this week.

Seattle Seahawks vs Carolina Panthers head to head preview:

The Seattle Seahawks are eager to build on last season's success, but some immediate concerns still surround a team filled with high expectations.A good start seems to be imperative for the Carolina Panthers' attempt to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
The Seahawks look to win their first road opener since 2006 on Sunday against a Panthers team hoping to carry over its late-season success to 2013.After going 11-5 and winning a road playoff game in 2012, Seattle can't wait to get this season underway."We're ready to go," said coach Pete Carroll, whose team rallied from a 20-point first-half deficit before Matt Bryant's field goal with eight seconds left dealt it a 30-28 divisional playoff loss at Atlanta. "It's great that the regular season is here."We wanted to put together a good offseason and a solid preseason, and I thought we did."The Seahawks have the talent to again seriously contend in the NFC behind running back Marshawn Lynch, versatile quarterback Russell Wilson and a secondary that paced the NFL's top scoring defense (15.3 points per game) in 2012.
Lynch rushed for a career-high 1,590 yards and had 11 touchdowns, while Wilson beat out free-agent signee Matt Flynn for the starting job as a rookie, then threw for 3,118 yards and 26 touchdowns while also running for 489 yards. The Seahawks also appeared to take a giant step forward when they traded for versatile receiver Percy Harvin to help add balance after their 536 rushing attempts accounted for an NFL-high 55.0 percent of their offensive plays. Harvin, though, was placed on the reserve physically unable to perform list with a hip injury that will keep him out until Week 7 at the earliest."It's going to take a good month before we will be able to figure out if he is even going to have a chance to come roaring back out of it," Carroll said. The secondary of Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor is perhaps the most talented in the league after helping Seattle's defense rank sixth against the pass (203.1 yards per game) in 2012."We have an elite group of DBs back there," Sherman said. The Seahawks, however, have concerns in front of that group, which will now be coordinated by Dan Quinn after Gus Bradley left to become Jacksonville's head coach.Prospective starting defensive tackles Brandon Mebane and Tony McDaniel were slowed by injuries during training camp, key free-agent acquisition Cliff Avril is dealing with a hamstring issue and pass-rushing linebacker Bruce Irvin is suspended the first four weeks for using banned substances. It's also uncertain when defensive Chris Clemons will return from a knee injury suffered in last season's 24-14 wild-card victory at Washington. For those healthy on either side of the ball, Carroll hopes for better self-discipline after Seattle was flagged 42 times for 419 yards during a 4-0 preseason. The Seahawks' 110 penalties were the sixth-most in the NFL last season, 13 of which came in a Week 1 loss at Arizona -- their sixth straight defeat in a road opener."I love the attitude about it in a sense, but we have to get smarter and we can't do anything but continue to emphasize the heck out of it," Carroll said.Seattle was flagged seven times for 65 yards but pulled out a 16-12 win at Carolina on Oct. 7. Wilson had one of his two interceptions returned for a touchdown, but he connected with Golden Tate on a 13-yard pass play for the game's only offensive touchdown. The Seahawks held Carolina to a season-low 190 total yards, 156 of which came on two possessions. The Panthers averaged 3.8 yards on their other nine. That defeat contributed to Carolina's second straight 2-8 start. Nine of the Panthers' 13 wins the last two seasons came after Thanksgiving, including four straight to end 2012.That's apparently been enough to secure third-year coach Ron Rivera's job at least for this season."We can't put ourselves in that hole and think a late six-game push is going to put us over the top when you start the season 2-8," tight end Greg Olsen said. "We need those late-season pushes, but that is to put you into the playoffs not to just salvage a season."We need to make those games in November and December real and the only way to do that is to put ourselves in playoff contention early."Star quarterback Cam Newton has combined for 62 touchdowns and thrown for 7,920 yards in his first two NFL seasons, but is 13-19 as a starter. He was 12 of 29 for a career-low 141 yards and sacked four times against the Seahawks.New offensive coordinator Mike Shula wants the Panthers to return to a "more traditional" rushing offense, but Jonathan Stewart will miss at least six weeks with an ankle injury and DeAngelo Williams has carried the ball at least 20 times in a game just twice in two seasons.Veteran receiver Steve Smith is coming off his seventh 1,000-yard season but had only four touchdowns in 2012.Defensive rookie of the year Luke Kuechly led the league with 164 tackles, while ends Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy combined for 23 1/2 sacks as the Panthers' defense ranked 10th in the NFL (331.1 ypg) in 2012.

Indianapolis Colts vs Oakland Raiders head to head preview:

While the Indianapolis Colts are banking on second-year quarterback Andrew Luck to help lead them back to the playoffs, the Oakland Raiders still won't say who they'll have under center to start the season.Luck and the Colts look to open the season with a seventh consecutive home victory Sunday when they host a Raiders team desperately trying to record their first winning record in 11 years.
Coming off a 2-14 season and saddled with trying to replace Peyton Manning, Indianapolis handed the ball to No. 1 overall pick Luck - who promptly led the team to a historic turnaround in 2012.Though he completed 54.1 percent of his passes and threw 18 interceptions compared to 23 touchdowns, Luck set NFL rookie records for yards passing (4,374), attempts (627), 300-yard games (six) and fourth-quarter comebacks (seven). More importantly for the Colts, they won nine more games and reached the playoffs. That .563 single-season improvement in winning percentage is tied for third-best since 1980, and they hope the rise continues this season."There's nobody in there that's relaxing,'' said coach Chuck Pagano, who missed most of last year while receiving treatment for leukemia. "I think everybody, because of the acquisitions, because of the free agents, because of the draft, those types of things, our roster is in a much better place than it was at any time last year.''Luck was sacked 41 times in 2012, so Indianapolis added linemen Gosder Cherilus and Donald Thomas through free agency and drafted Hugh Thornton and Khaled Holmes. With Bruce Arians now in Arizona, Luck's college offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton took over and installed a power running game featuring Vick Ballard, former Giant Ahmad Bradshaw and more two tight-end sets. The Colts have not produced a 1,000-yard rusher since Joseph Addai in 2007.Veteran Reggie Wayne, who caught 106 passes for 1,355 yards in 2012, and second-year speedster T.Y. Hilton lead a receiving corps that hopes to get more out of underachieving former Raider Darrius Heyward-Bey.Luck feels more relaxed despite playing for his second offensive coordinator in as many seasons."A little bit, just by virtue of having played in an NFL game before,'' he said. "Knowing what pregame is like, knowing who runs out of the tunnel and where, things of that nature. Again, it's still very exciting.''Pagano knows he's fortunate not to have to worry about the quarterback position heading into this season."We're in an ideal situation. I know some aren't,'' he said.Pagano need only look across the field Sunday at Raiders coach Dennis Allen, who has yet to announce whether career backup Matt Flynn or little-used Terrelle Pryor will start. Reports, though, indicate that Pryor will get the nod after Oakland's offense scored 32 points on 14 drives with him at the helm and 10 on 13 with Flynn this preseason. Pryor did face mostly reserves.Flynn appears healthy after missing a week with a sore elbow, but Pryor may give the Raiders a better chance to succeed because of his mobility. That could come in handy within an offense in which oft-injured running back Darren McFadden is the only proven playmaker.Oakland averaged 13.0 points over a six-game stretch last season before Pryor started a 24-21 season-ending loss at San Diego."That's my goal, to be a starting quarterback and to lead a team to wins,'' said Pryor, who threw for 150 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while running for one score in his first career start that concluded Oakland's 4-12 season."I won't stop until it happens. Until it happens and keeps on happening, I'll keep on pushing.''He's among 14 quarterbacks to start for the Raiders since the beginning of the 2004 season - tied with Cleveland and Miami for the most during that span.Flynn could experience a case of deja vu after he lost a starting job that appeared to be his during preseason last year in Seattle, when he was beaten out by Russell Wilson.
The Raiders also need more from McFadden, who's missed 13 games the last two seasons while running for 1,321 yards in that span. He rushed for 1,157 in 2010.He was held to 45 yards on 11 carries the only time he faced the Colts, a 31-26 home loss in the most recent meeting Dec. 26, 2010.The Raiders face an Indianapolis defense that added veterans Erik Walden, Greg Toler and LeRon Landry after ranking 26th overall with 374.2 yards per game and 29th against the run at 137.5.Oakland brought back veteran defensive back Charles Woodson, along with former Saint Tracy Porter and ex-Chicago linebacker Nick Roach after allowing an average of 32.0 points during its last eight losses.

Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings head to head preview:

The Detroit Lions open the 2013 NFL season against the Minnesota Vikings with the goal of rectifying 2012's winless record within the NFC North.

Although, it is the Lions, so it could be the opening stumble towards another irrelevant season.

But it's too early for gripes and draft predictions in Motown, where the two are year-round activities. The 2013 season, as we say every year in Detroit, has a chance to be different. So let's take a look at the game-determining factors and one man's prognostication on how it all plays out.

Keys To a Lions Victory

Just because it's obvious doesn't mean it's wrong. The Vikings are a one-dimensional team that heavily relies on their all-world running back to drive the offense. While that can be a sound strategy, the Vikings' inability to pass has cost them wins in the past.

And that deficiency will continue to do so going forward.

There are no indications that third-year quarterback Christian Ponder has taken a step forward, meaning Minnesota could easily finish with a well below-average passing attack again (28th last year).

The Lions responded well against the Buffalo Bills, only missing three tackles after whiffing on 23 attempts in the prior three games. That's a promising statistic, but those successful tackles mostly came against backups.

The fact is that the starting linebackers were horrendous last year. They combined to whiff on 44 tackles in 2012. Granted, the departed Justin Durant is included in that group, but his replacement didn't fare much better, missing one of nine attempts.

That's a long-winded way of saying the defensive line must dominate. Luckily, especially since rookie defensive end Ezekiel Ansah should be ready to go, the Lions have the personnel to get it done. If you go back and watch the preseason tape, Detroit consistently stuffed the run with the front four. If they can continue that trend, Minnesota will be hard pressed to move the ball.

"Here the writer goes again. Tell us something we don't know!"

I can already see you pounding out disparaging comments about my intelligence. But don't blame me because of your extreme fan intellect (Yes, I will pander to fans for clicks! Share with a friend!).

But seriously, bright-eyed starting tackles Riley Reiff and Jason Fox will not be easing into their duties. No, this will be more like a baptism by fire. Defensive ends Allen and Robison combined for 20 sacks and 87 quarterback hurries last season. However, the starting cornerbacks are either average or young, meaning quarterback Matthew Stafford should be able to attack downfield with Calvin Johnson and exploit the seams with the tight ends. But he has to be standing upright to deliver those throws.

Tennessee Titans vs Pittsburgh Steelers head to head preview:

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans clash on the NFL's opening Sunday at Heinz Field.

Pittsburgh comes in off a disappointing 8-8 season in which it missed the playoffs for the second time in three seasons. In fact, the last Steelers playoff victory was in the AFC Championship Game over the New York Jets back in January of 2011.Ben Roethlisberger will have to shoulder a considerable amount of the load with Mike Wallace and Rashard Mendenhall no longer around. Certainly, this Pittsburgh team seems more vulnerable without Casey Hampton and James Harrison as well.As for the Titans, Mike Munchak and quarterback Jake Locker each enter their third seasons looking to prove they belong. Locker has some weapons around him in Chris Johnson, Nate Washington and Kenny Britt and, more importantly, Locker has a much improved offensive line with Andy Levitre and Chance Warmack being inserted into the guard spots. The main issue for Tennessee remains its defense. Other than Bernard Pollard coming over, the team didn't do much to upgrade a unit that finished last in points allowed per game.Over at CBS Sports, all eight experts picked the Steelers to defeat the Titans. Tennessee fans can at least cling to six of those same experts believing the Titans will cover the spread of 7.5. At ESPN.com, the four analysts who made predictions sided with Pittsburgh.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints head to head preview:

Another season of Buccaneer football is upon us. We've seen all the speculation, the predictions and what not. The talking is over. Now it's time to put it all on the football field.

At 1pm on Sunday, your Tampa Bay Buccaneers head to the fancy new Met Life Stadium to take on the dysfunctional New York Jets.

The Bucs are 1-9 lifetime against the gang green and have never beaten the Jets in New York. The last time the Bucs beat the New York Jets, Prince was singing about Purple Rain and Michael Jackson was finishing up his Thriller tour.

Will this game be any different?

Let's take a look at the match ups:

Series Record: Jets lead 9-1

Last Meeting: December 13, 2009 - Jets 26, Tampa Bay 3

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Passing Game vs. New York Jets Pass Defense :

We all know the rollercoaster ride that is Josh Freeman. At times he can look like an unstoppable force. Other times, he's the worst quarterback in the league. There's no middle ground with Freeman. You either have good Josh or Bad Josh.

Freeman still has two awesome weapons to throw to in Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams as well as newcomer Kevin Ogletree. Doug Martin and Brian Leonard are also expected to catch more balls out of the backfield this season.

They'll be facing a young Jets defense that was hobbled by the injury to Quinton Coples, expected to be their primary pass rusher. Coples won't play after suffering a hair-line fracture in his ankle.

Even without Coples, the Jets defense (ranked 8th last season) is capable. Muhammad Wilkerson and first round pick Sheldon Richardson are players to watch.

In the secondary, Antonio Cromartie is as good as they come and has done a credible job in replacing Revis. On the other side, Dee Milliner has had his struggles and facing Mike Williams, could be an advantage for the Bucs.

Head Coach Rex Ryan is known for his confusion defense, bringing blitzes from every corner of the field. The Bucs offensive line, which was supposed to be a strength, surrendered 9 sacks in the pre-season. They must give Freeman time to find the open man.

Even without Revis, New York had the second best defense against the pass last season. Tampa Bay's offense was 10th in the league in passing.

Atlanta Falcons vs New Orleans Saints head to head preview:

The Atlanta Falcons have struggled against the New Orleans Saints over the years, but they are favored in their Week 1 matchup and the trusty Odds Shark computer is picking them as well. The NFC South battle happens Sunday at the Superdome in Louisiana, with New Orleans a 3-point home favorite according to most sportsbooks. However, despite their 3-11 SU mark in 14 clashes with the Saints, the computer picks the Falcons in a 33-26 final.Atlanta finished the 2012 regular season with a 13-3 SU record, tied with Denver for the best record in the NFL, with a respectable 9-6-1 ATS record to go along with it. With a 36-12 SU record over the last three seasons, the Falcons have been one of the league's most consistent regular season performers over that span. And with RB Steven Jackson joining an already loaded offense featuring Matt Ryan, Roddy White, and Julio Jones, there is no reason to expect a step backwards this season. But will the Falcons be able to fend off the New Orleans Saints? With Sean Payton suspended for the 2012 season, the Saints went just 7-9 SU and 8-8 ATS despite finishing the year with the best passing attack in the NFL.Payton's return and a new defensive coordinator in Rex Ryan are expected to give the Saints the boost they need to return to prominence. Drew Brees passed for 5,177 yards and 43 touchdowns last season, and should once again be one of the league's top passers in 2013.While Atlanta has been dominating most of the NFL over the last few years, the Falcons still haven't been able to solve the Saints. Despite the fact that these are two of the elite passing games in the NFL, the total has gone UNDER in three of the last five games between Atlanta and New Orleans. This one could go either way, and both teams are built similarly with tremendous offenses and question marks on defense. But with emotions riding high in Sean Payton's return to the sideline at home, look for the Saints to outshoot their rivals.

Miami Dolphins vs Cleveland Browns head to head preview:

The Cleveland Browns are hoping to do the same behind their own second-year standout.Tannehill and the revamped Dolphins will try to deal Trent Richardson and the Browns their ninth straight season-opening loss Sunday when Rob Chudzinski makes his debut as Cleveland's coach. After going 7-9 last season for their fourth straight losing year -- the franchise's longest such skid since the 1960s -- the Dolphins have their sights set on reaching the playoffs for the second time in 12 years. They certainly had their chances in 2012, dropping five games by a touchdown or less. That's a trend they'd like to end as Tannehill tries to build on a debut season in which he completed 58.3 percent of his passes for 3,294 yards -- more than fellow rookies Robert Griffin III or Russell Wilson -- and had a 121.3 passer rating in the red zone over his last seven games.Tannehill threw 13 interceptions and totaled just 12 scoring strikes -- including only three to wideouts -- but showed improvement with five touchdowns while getting picked off once over his final four games."I see things much quicker than I did," Tannehill said. "It's my second year and I can't have the same growing pains than I did in the first year. You have to be able to make the plays when they're there."Miami sought to improve the NFL's 27th-ranked offense by adding deep threat Mike Wallace, who finished with 64 catches for 836 yards and eight touchdowns for Pittsburgh last season. The Dolphins were tied for 25th in the NFL with seven touchdowns of 20-plus yards in 2012, while Wallace has 21 over his four-year career. The Dolphins also added receiver Brandon Gibson from St. Louis and tight end Dustin Keller from the Jets, though Keller has been lost for the season after dislocating his right knee in the third preseason game."I like what I see," Tannehill said. "I think we have a lot of talent on the field, a lot of guys who can get open, catch the ball and do something with it when they get the ball in their hands. I'm excited we have playmakers. Now it's just a matter of putting the puzzle together and doing a good job myself of giving them the ball."

Protection, however, could be a concern after left tackle Jake Long departed for St. Louis. The offensive line also will try to create some holes for Lamar Miller, who is expected to replace the departed Reggie Bush as the starting running back.Miami hopes to expose a Cleveland defense that allowed 363.8 yards per game last season to rank 23rd in the NFL.The Browns, though, have transitioned from a 4-3 defense into a 3-4 scheme and signed free agent linebackers Paul Kruger and Quentin Groves along with end Desmond Bryant. They also drafted linebacker Barkevious Mingo, who won't play Sunday as he continues to recover from a bruised lung.Cleveland may be able to keep its defense off the field by giving the ball to Richardson. With his ribs healed, a lighter Richardson looks to put together a breakout year of his own after rushing for a franchise rookie-record 950 yards and 11 touchdowns on 267 carries despite playing more than half of last season with two broken ribs."I'm looking towards no injury, no broken fingernails, nothing," said Richardson, who also caught 51 passes for 367 yards and a touchdown. "I know my whole season is based on being healthy and playing 16 games and hopefully in the playoffs."Chudzinski, the franchise's seventh coach since 1999, will try to end Cleveland's 10-year playoff drought after serving as Carolina's offensive coordinator the past two seasons. He was also the Browns' offensive coordinator in 2007, when they last finished with a winning record.Chudzinski and new offensive coordinator Norv Turner will try to get the most out of quarterback Brandon Weeden, who threw for a franchise rookie-record 3,385 yards -- second only to Andrew Luck among first-year players -- with 14 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 2012.The 29-year-old Weeden had his share of troubles at home, throwing five touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 54.2 percent of his passes. He faces a Miami defense that ranked 27th against the pass last season, but Weeden won't have his top target for the first two games as wide receiver Josh Gordon was suspended for failing the league's drug policy. Former Dolphin Davone Bess could help after signing with Cleveland in the offseason. After tying for fourth-worst in the NFL with 16 takeaways last year, Miami looked to improve in that area by adding cornerback Brent Grimes and linebackers Dannell Ellerbe, Philip Wheeler and top draft pick Dion Jordan."I'm going to be excited," said Jordan, who is expected to play Sunday despite missing the final three exhibition games because of a lingering shoulder injury. "I'm just going to probably have to control my emotions."

Miami has lost four straight games to Cleveland.

Cincinnati Bengals vs Chicago Bears head to head preview:

The Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears got outstanding performances from their respective defenses a year ago on the way to 10-win seasons, but shortcomings on offense were too much for the clubs to overcome. After a little tweaking on the other side of the ball, the two clubs kick off their 2013 campaign on Sunday in Marc Trestman's debut at Solider Field as head coach of the Bears. The Bears and the Bengals both finished with defenses that ranked in the top six a year ago, but had trouble putting points on the board. Chicago finished 16th in scoring at 23.4 points per game and 28th overall on offense, while Cincinnati averaged just one more point per game and had the 22nd-ranked offense in football. Both teams still managed 10-6 record, though the Bears followed up a 7-1 start by losing five of six and ended up losing out on a tiebreaker with the Minnesota Vikings for the sixth seed in the NFC.The Bengals found themselves 3-5 after a loss to Denver on Nov. 4, but won seven of their final eight regular season games to match the Baltimore Ravens for the top mark in the AFC North. Cincinnati entered the postseason as a wild card club, but failed to score an offensive touchdown in a 19-13 loss at Houston in the opening round.Cincinnati returns nearly the entire defense that gave up just 319.7 yards per game last year and added linebacker and former Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison in the offseason. Not a whole lot was done to the offense, though the Bengals did spent their first two draft picks in April on Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert (21st overall) and North Carolina running back Giovani Bernard (37th overall). Instead, they are looking for Andy Dalton to continue his improvement as he heads into his third NFL season."We start from scratch now," said Marvin Lewis, who enters his 11th season as Cincinnati's head coach. "We don't get to pick up where we left off last year, and there's not much carryover from preseason."Thanks to the late-season collapse, the Bears made a more drastic change by firing head coach Lovie Smith and replacing him with Trestman, the 14th man in team history to be named to the position.Trestman comes to the NFL after having served the five previous seasons in the Canadian Football League, where he led the Montreal Alouettes to back-to-back Grey Cup championships in 2009-10 and was named Coach of the Year in '09.Know for his ability to get the most out of quarterbacks, Trestman will try to become just the fourth Bears head coach to win his debut contest, joining Hall of Famer George S. Halas (1920), Neill Armstrong (1978) and Dick Jauron (1999).Trestman will try to squeeze all he can out of the offensive core of quarterback Jay Cutler, wide receiver Brandon Marshall and running back Matt Forte while keeping up a defense that enters the year without retired linebacker Brian Urlacher for the first time since 1999.The Bengals have won six of their nine all-time meetings with the Bears, including each of the last two. They won the most recent encounter at home in 2009 following a victory in Chicago during the 2005 campaign.Chicago has not beaten Cincinnati since 2001 and not at home since 1989, losing four of its five all-time home meetings in this series. The Bengals, who are opening the season on the road for a fourth straight year, are 20-25 in their opening game, while the Bears' 53 opening-day victories (53-35-5) are the most by an NFL franchise. They have won four of their last five openers and are 17-3 in their last 20 season openers at home.If you want to enjoy NFL Live with every pulse of time, everywhere and every event without any hassle as long time on your PC! New England Patriots vs Buffalo Bills head to head preview:

Following a tumultuous offseason that resulted in the loss of several offensive weapons, Tom Brady provides the New England Patriots with some stability heading into the season opener. The Buffalo Bills hope they've found their mainstay at quarterback in top draft pick EJ Manuel.Brady and the Patriots look to begin a march to their 10th AFC East title in 11 years Sunday when they visit first-year coach Doug Marrone and the Bills, who are aiming to end the NFL's longest playoff drought. After finishing 12-4 and falling 28-13 to Baltimore in the 2012 AFC championship game, New England could be without its top five pass-catchers from that squad.Wes Welker and Brandon Lloyd, who combined for 192 catches last year, and Danny Woodhead are gone, while Aaron Hernandez was released following his stunning June arrest on a murder charge.Rob Gronkowski has been practicing with the team after forearm and back surgeries, but the tight end didn't play in the preseason and isn't likely to play Sunday."I'm preparing every single day to the max of my ability, preparing every day to (do) the best I can," Gronkowski said. "And when my number's called, that's when I'll play. I can't tell you when that will be."Free agent acquisition Danny Amendola has been battling a groin injury but is expected to be ready for the opener. Amendola had a career-high 85 catches while with St. Louis in his last full season in 2010 and is one of the veterans the Patriots are counting on, along with Julian Edelman.

Three rookies -- free agent Kenbrell Thompkins and draft choices Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce -- may also help fill the void at wideout, while free agent rookie Zach Sudfeld and veterans Michael Hoomanawanui and Matthew Mulligan could step in at tight end.A lack of reliable options, however, could make it difficult for Brady to put up another big year. The two-time NFL MVP completed 401 of 637 passes for 4,827 yards with 34 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2012, finishing just shy of back-to-back 5,000-yard seasons.Brady has certainly had his share of success against the Bills, winning 20 of 22 starts while completing 65.0 percent of his passes and throwing 51 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.Brady passed for 340 yards and three touchdowns and Stevan Ridley ran for 106 yards and two scores as the Patriots put up 45 second-half points en route to a 52-28 victory in their last trip to Buffalo on Sept. 30. Ridley finished with 98 yards and a touchdown in a 37-31 home win Nov. 11.Ridley, who rushed for 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns last season, will attempt to build on that breakout effort against a Buffalo defense that ranked 31st against the run in 2012 with 145.8 yards allowed per game. The Bills, however, hope to be much improved after implementing a hybrid 3-4 scheme under former Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. They'll attempt to slow down the Patriots without starting cornerback Stephon Gilmore (broken wrist) and most likely two-time Pro Bowl safety Jairus Byrd (foot).Marrone, who along with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett helped build Syracuse into a formidable offense before joining the Bills, will go with Manuel to lead the team in his debut. The No. 16 overall pick's status had been in question after undergoing what the team called a "minor procedure" on his left knee Aug. 18. He was injured two days earlier while scrambling in a 20-16 preseason win over Minnesota."I'd be lying if I'm sitting here saying, 'I don't expect him to do great things,'" said Marrone, who looks to guide the Bills to their first postseason appearance since 1999. "We expect not just EJ, but all of our players that are out there to perform at a very, very high level."That includes running back C.J. Spiller, one of the team's bright spots during last year's 6-10 season. Spiller rushed for a career-high 1,244 yards and averaged 6.0 yards per carry, matching MVP Adrian Peterson for tops in the NFL among running backs.Leading receiver Stevie Johnson finished with 79 catches during his third straight 1,000-yard season. The Bills have second-year player T.J. Graham, and they added rookies Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin to their receiving corps. They'll try to stretch a New England defense that allowed 37 passing plays of 25 yards or more last season -- tied for the fourth-most in the NFL.The Patriots, though, improved in that area when they acquired cornerback Aqib Talib from Tampa Bay in November, allowing Devin McCourty to move to safety on a more permanent basis."McCourty, he's been a Pro Bowl player," Johnson said. "But I still think we can take advantage of their defense."The Patriots have won 23 of 25 against the Bills.
